Marking a Significant $299 Million Investment in Infrastructure for Northern Nevada

RENO, Nev. (May 6, 2024) – The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) announced today the official approval and financial close for the highly anticipated Ground Transportation Center (GTC) project that will improve ground transportation services at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO). Following the successful financial close on May 2, 2024, the project is set to deliver a state-of-the-art facility by 2028.

In a strategic partnership, Conrac Solutions, owned by leading sustainable infrastructure asset manager Meridiam, have been named the Public-Private Partnership (P3) for this project. The collaboration with Conrac Solutions marks a significant milestone in the airport’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience, strengthening sustainability initiatives and improving public safety for millions of passengers annually as part of the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program

“We’re proud of this unprecedented Public-Private Partnership with Conrac Solutions,” said Daren Griffin, President/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. “This collaboration is a significant $299 million private sector investment, marking a historic moment for our region. Conrac Solutions’ proven track record in developing innovative ConRAC facilities aligns with our vision for revolutionizing ground transportation at RNO.”

Recognizing the parking challenges faced by travelers, the GTC project aims to alleviate congestion by relocating rental car facilities from the parking garage to the new center. This strategic move will free up hundreds of parking spaces currently occupied by rental car companies, providing passengers with easier access to parking and reducing overall traffic flow on the airport’s roadway.

Ground Transportation Center Key Figures

  • Spanning four floors and occupying a ground lease of approximately 440,220 square feet
  • Initially accommodate around nine Rent-A-Car (RAC) brands
  • Covered pedestrian access, a short distance from the terminal
  • Quick Turnaround Area comprises six car washes, three maintenance bays, twenty-four fuel positions, and ample vehicle storage.

“I want to emphasize the lasting impact that this important infrastructure will have, not only on our tenant and passenger experience but on the region as a whole,” added Daren Griffin. “Rental cars are essential to northern Nevada and critical for our travelers to explore our region. By modernizing our current ground transportation and rental car operations and facilities, we are not only enhancing efficiency and convenience but also contributing to the economic growth and vitality of our community. It’s an essential infrastructure that supports both current ground transportation needs and future advancements, such as accommodating electric vehicles. Additionally, its proximity, just a short walk from the airport, maintains the convenience and ease that is paramount to our travelers.”

Conrac Solutions brings a wealth of experience to the project, having successfully delivered similar facilities across the nation. Their commitment to excellence and sustainability ensures that the GTC will not only meet but exceed the expectations of passengers.

Conrac Solutions CEO Michael Minerva stated, “Congratulations to the rental car industry and the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority on this momentous occasion. Conrac Solutions is proud to have been selected to develop, finance and operate the rental car facility, and to deliver the facility at no cost to local taxpayers.”

The GTC will also be built through a joint venture partnership involving Q&D Construction, based in Reno and Webcor Construction, headquartered in San Francisco, along with a consortium of local subcontractors.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) operates two of the most important economic drivers for our region–the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and the Reno-Stead Airport (RTS). The RTAA is financially self-sufficient, meaning it is funded through airport operations and not state or local taxes. The RTAA is transforming the travel experience at RNO with a multi-year infrastructure program, MoreRNO. This construction program—the largest ever at the airport—will bring passengers more of what they love. Learn more at www.MoreRNO.com.
