RENO, Nev. (Jan. 16, 2025) – Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is proud to announce a historic year in 2024, marked by record passenger numbers, major milestones in infrastructure development and innovative partnerships that set the stage for an exciting future.

Passenger Traffic Milestones

2024 was the busiest year for RNO since 2008, with a total of 4.8 million passengers served a 6% increase from the previous year. While 2024 has been a record year for RNO, the airport is continuing to see growth into the first quarter of 2025 with a projected 5% increase in seats available, compared to 2024.

Notable Air Service Highlights

  • RNO had an 8% increase in available flights compared to last year.
  • Broken down, that’s more than 250,000 seats added in 2024.
  • The much-anticipated return of Delta Airlines’ nonstop service to Atlanta launched in June.
  • United Airlines upgraded their seasonal nonstop flight to Chicago O’Hare to a year-round flight and Alaska Airlines added nonstop service to Los Angeles and San Diego in late 2024.
  • Upcoming expansions starting in early 2025 includes new nonstop routes by Southwest Airlines to Austin and Frontier Airlines to Las Vegas and Denver.

Transformative Infrastructure Projects

This year marked significant progress on RNO’s transformative infrastructure program, MoreRNO

  • Ticketing Hall Expansion: Opened in April, the new Ticketing Hall added 10,000 square feet of space that enhances operational efficiency and includes the airport’s first-ever public art installation, redefining the passenger experience.
  • Ground Transportation Center: A Public-Private Partnership with Conrac Solutions was finalized in March, laying the groundwork for a state-of-the-art facility. Construction is scheduled to begin as early as 2026.
  • Police and Airport Authority Headquarters: Design work for the new headquarters building is 60% complete, with a groundbreaking planned by fall 2025.
  • Two New Concourses: Approved by the RTAA Board of Trustees in June, the replacement of all aircraft gates is the largest project in RNO history. This project will be powered by a new Central Utility Plant and while it will be servicing a larger space, it will do so with greater efficiency.

Securing Funding for the Future

In August, the RTAA successfully completed a $238 million bond issuance to support the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program. The bond sale garnered significant investor interest, with orders exceeding $2.6 billion—more than 11 times the amount offered.

The funding supports the development of the new concourses and the RNO Police Airport Authority Headquarters. The bond issuance is a reflection of investor confidence in northern Nevada’s economic growth and the RTAA’s financial strength.

Economic Growth

The Reno-Stead Airport (RTS) celebrated a milestone in October with the announcement of Lyten’s intent to invest $1 billion in a gigafactory. This facility will lead the way in lithium-sulfur battery production, driving innovation and creating high-quality jobs in northern Nevada.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With continued passenger growth, exciting new air service and the implementation of new infrastructure projects, RNO is positioned to meet the demands of a growing northern Nevada community while enhancing the travel experience for all passengers.

###

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) operates two of the most important economic drivers for our region–the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and the Reno-Stead Airport (RTS). The RTAA is financially self-sufficient, meaning it is funded through airport operations and not state or local taxes. Eleven airlines serve RNO, flying to multiple nonstop destinations throughout the United States and Mexico. For more details, visit www.renoairport.com.
