Southwest Airlines Takes Off with New Nonstop to Austin

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) recently celebrated the launch of Southwest Airlines’ new nonstop service to Austin, Texas. This new route, which operates three times a week, is a game-changer for both business and leisure travelers, enhancing connectivity to the Lone Star State and beyond. Expanding air service is a top priority for RNO, and this launch marks another significant milestone in providing greater travel options.

A gate event with live music and treats commemorated the special moment with passengers and guests.

Busy Spring Break Travel Ahead

RNO is gearing up for a bustling spring break travel period, with higher-than-usual passenger volumes and full parking expected. To ensure a smooth experience, travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternative transportation options.

Parking Solutions

  • Rideshare Promotion: RNO is offering more than 2,000 $5 Uber and Lyft rideshare vouchers for spring break travelers. Starting March 13, passengers can access promo codes on the airport’s website for discounts on rides to and from the airport. The program runs through March 31 or until all vouchers are redeemed.
  • Overflow Parking: Additional parking lots will be available, but travelers should arrive early as these may require extra time to navigate. Signage and staff will help direct passengers to the nearest available lot. Shuttle services will be provided at select times for off-site lots, while on-site lots may require a short walk to the terminal.
  • New Parking Reservation System: Beginning in April, RNO will be testing a parking reservation system for select spaces in the garage, allowing travelers to guarantee their spot in advance. While a spot will be saved on the second and roof floors, passengers may still need extra time to find an available space.

Call for Artists: Loop Road Public Art Installation (Deadline: April 7)

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is expanding its commitment to public art with a new solicitation for the Loop Road Project, marking the second major installation under the Arts at the Airport program. This initiative, supported by the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program ensures that art remains an integral part of the airport’s transformation.

RNO is seeking professional visual artists or artist teams to create a new site-specific artwork along the airport’s Loop Road. This high-visibility installation will serve as a welcoming landmark for travelers and the community, reinforcing northern Nevada’s identity as a hub for creativity and culture.
