    This art exhibition project between Cultural Alliance Nevada and the Sierra Arts Foundation featured artwork from all across the great state of Nevada.

    Indigenous Voices of the Great Basin | November 2019 – January 2020

    Indigenous Voices of the Great Basin exhibited works in a range of mediums by members of the Great Basin Native Artists (GBNA), a nonprofit collective of contemporary Indigenous artists residing within or originally from the Great Basin areas of Nevada, California, Southern Oregon, Southern Idaho, and Utah. The show was curated by GBNA founder and mixed-media visual artist Melissa Melero-Moose.

    Mutant Vehicles of Burning Man | August 2019 – October 2019

    Curated by Michael Mikel, one of Burning Man’s founders, and his wife Dusty, the exhibit included unique banners of photos featuring Burning Man’s mutant vehicles, also known as art cars. Mikel created the first of such vehicles in 1991. A custom neon ‘Mini Man’ was also included in the exhibit, among other artifacts.

    11th Annual Employee Art Show | May 2019 – July 2019

    The 11th Annual Employee Art Show was a spectacular display of more than 100 pieces of art from more than 100 artists within the airport family including Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority employees, tenants, or members of their families. The exhibition included works ranging from paintings, photography, mixed-media, sculpture, and crafts. Sponsored by the National Art’s Programs Foundation, the annual show began in 2007.

    Carson City Arts: Taking Flight | February 2019 – April 2019

    This group exhibition of 54 artists represented the Carson City Arts & Culture Coalition, the Nevada Association, and the Western Nevada College art faculty. A variety of media were represented including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and printmaking

    Wolf Pack Around the World | November 2018 – January 2019

    Wolf Pack Around the World showcased University of Nevada, Reno students’ studies abroad. It showed the impact studying abroad has on the individual and the community. Students reflected on the opportunity to learn what makes each location unique, experience cultural diversity, intern, volunteer, explore new places.

    10th Annual Employee Art Show | May 2018 – July 2018

    The 10th Annual Employee Art Show displayed over 100 works by more 100 artists that either work at the airport or immediate family members. Sponsored by the National Art’s Program Foundation, the annual Employee Art Show began in 2007 and features works ranging in painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, and crafts.

    Moments of Memory | February 2018 – April 2018

    Moments of Memory showed artwork created by artists with Alzheimer’s from three Reno-Sparks memory care facilities. Classes for residents provide a safe and supportive environment for social interaction and self-expression. The Springtime determined the theme of this exhibit with artists focusing on the present. Media used to produce images of flowers, birds, nests, and bulbs were cosmetics, flowers, fruit, twigs, feathers, and leaves.

    Great Basin Basketmakers | November 2017 – January 2018

    In celebration of 30 years of fellowship, community involvement, and weaving in the West, the Great Basin Basketmakers Guild showcased over 250 baskets from 100 members throughout the States. Members of the guild create a wide variety of traditional and contemporary baskets made of natural and recycled materials. The Guild’s studies have expanded to include styles from Europe, Africa, South American, Canada, and Asia.

    9th Annual Employee Art Show | May 2017 – July 2017

    The 9th Annual Employee Art Show showcased a selection of 138 pieces of art created by more than 80 airport artists, retirees, and their immediate family. Media included paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed-media artworks.

    Squaw Valley: An Olympic History | February 2016 – April 2016

    Squaw Valley: An Olympic History featured historical photography, memorabilia from the 1960 Winter Olympic Games held at Squaw Valley, USA. This was the first Olympics to be held in the western United States.

    Burning Man: Through the Artists’ Lens | August 2015 – October 2015

    Three talented photographers share what Burning Man means to them. What spectacular scenes and special interactions captivate them? What provokes them to grab their cameras? To attempt to hold onto a moment, forever? It is through their lens that we can approach a deeper understanding and appreciation of the spirit of the Burning Man even and the global cultural movement it has inspired.

    7th Annual Employee Art Show | May 2015 – July 2015

    The 7th Annual Employee Art Show included 105 artworks created by 79 airport artists and comprised paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed media. All art was created by employees of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, tenant employees of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, recent retirees, and immediate family members.

    Carson Valley Quilt Guild | February 2015 – April 2015

    The Carson Valley Quilt Guild includes 150 members from Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, and Reno. In addition to sharing techniques and knowledge, as well as promoting an appreciation of quilting as an art form, the Guild provides annual scholarships to deserving art students at both Western Nevada College and Virginia City High School. Throughout the year, the Guild donates more than 100 quilts to several local charities, including City of Refuge, Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation, Austin’s House, and Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation.

    The Power of a High-Five | November 2014 – February 2015

    High Fives Foundation is a Tahoe-based, national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for athletes who have suffered a life-altering injury while pursuing their dream in winter action sports. The founder formed High Fives as a way to pay-it-forward following his own recovery from an injury. The foundation has helped 65 athletes to date since its inception in 2009.     Burning Man: Igniting Nevada’s Creative Fire | August 2014 – October 2014

    Artwork from this exhibit included designed, built, and installed on the playa then later incorporated into communities in Nevada. The Burning Man Project is a non-profit that seeks to bring experiences that lift the human spirit, address social problems, and inspire a sense of culture, community, and artistic engagement into the larger world.

    6th Annual Employee Art Show | May 2014 – July 2014

    The 6th Annual Employee Art Show was a selection of 123 artworks created by 80 airport artists. Media included paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed media. All art was created by employees of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, tenant employees of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, recent retirees, and immediate family members.

    Winter Inspired: How Lake Tahoe Inspires and Informs the Work of Area Photographers, Artists, and Makers | December 2013 – April 2014

    This exhibit included photographers, artists, and makers from the greater Reno-Lake Tahoe region and how winter inspires them. Imagery included the spectacular scenic beauty of North America’s largest alpine lake, the incredible skiing and snowboarding terrain, the contrasting and complementing big snowfalls and sunshine, and the community that calls it home.

    Burning Man: Thriving in the Desert, Flourishing in the World | August 2013 – November 2013

    The artifacts of this exhibit represented a portion of the material culture that inspires this annual event, patches, jewelry, and pins, the “FLARE!” costume designed and worn by SF artist $teven Ra$pa, and photographs of art installations from the playa. For 24 years, the Black Rock Desert outside Reno, Nevada, has been home to the increasingly popular and influential Burning Man event. What began in 1986 on a beach in San Francisco has become an annual eight-day gathering that attracts 60,000 participants from every US state and 22 countries. Gifting is one of the Burning Man’s Ten Principles, and the objects in this exhibit are the tokens of creativity and generosity that symbolize the desert community.

    Wild Horses: Spirit of the West | May 2013 – July 2013

    This exhibit comprised works by sculptor Doug Van Howd, muralist Susie Alexander, photographer Mark Terrel, giclee prints by Paula Morin, as well as book covers from renowned children’s author Terri Farley. This display glorified the mysterious, symbolic creatures that still roam the wild west, sources of wonder, inspiration, and respect.

    5th Annual Employee Art Show | February 2012 – April 2012

    The 5th Annual Employee Art Show selected 94 artworks created by 65 airport artists. Media included paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed media. All art was created by employees of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, tenant employees of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, recent retirees, and immediate family members. The show held a reception that included the double quartet Double Down and soloists Maggie Kulpin and Angelica Diaz.

    What Continues the Dream: Contemporary Arts and Crafts from the Powwow Tradition | November 2011 – January 2012

    What Continues the Dream was the gallery’s first American Indian exhibit opened during National American Indian Heritage Month. The exhibit was a collaboration between the Nevada Arts Council and the State of Nevada Indian Commission and included photographs of powwow dancers in their colorful regalia, information regarding Nevada Indian Territory, and hand-crafted cultural objects. This exhibit helped to educate visitors where they stand on the Washoe, Paiute, and Shoshone people.

    Burning Man: Baker Beach to Black Rock Desert and Beyond | August 2011 – October 2011

    Once a year, tens of thousands gather in the Black Rock Desert. They build a city dedicated to community, art, and self-reliance. Participants depart a week later, leaving no trace. However, Burning Man is more than just a week in the desert. It is an ever-expanding culture that spans the whole year. This 3rd annual exhibit was made possible in part to the Black Rock Arts Foundation.

    Reno Open Studios | May 2011 – July 2011

    Formerly known as Artouring, Reno Open Studios is northwestern Nevada’s window into the creative world of many talented visual artists. Reno Open Studios provides unique opportunities to visit the artists’ studios and see them work. Visitors learn about what inspires the artists, witness their techniques, and be stimulated by their passion for the creative process.

    Carson Valley Quilt Guild | February 2011 – April 2011

    The Carson Valley Quilt Guild consists of 135 members from Minden, Gardnerville, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, and Reno. This show exhibited a representative sample of the talent contained within the Guild, and how the medium allows for various techniques and creativity from the individual makers.

    4th Annual Employee Art Show | November 2010 – January 17, 2011

    The 4th Annual Employee Art Show selected 98 artworks created by 59 airport artists. Media included paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed media. All art was created by employees of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, tenant employees of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, recent retirees, and immediate family members. Swope Middle School Jazz Band performed during the artist’s reception.

  • From Playa to Runway: The Culture of Burning Man | August 2010 – October 2010

    This 2nd annual exhibit was comprised of several elements from Burning Man culture in an effort to share with the public the event’s emphasis on art, community, and fire. The exhibit features photographs of Black Rock City, unique artworks and sculptures, the Man, the Man, the Temple, art cars, and participants; all the elements that combine to create the culture of Burning Man. This exhibit is made possible in part to the Black Rock Arts Foundation.

    Photography by Marilyn Newton: And the Story Goes… | May 2010 – July 2010

    Thirty-seven of Marilyn Newton’s favorite photographs from forty-seven years in the making were on display. Newton was hired by the Reno Gazette-Journal, then the Reno Evening Gazette, and Nevada State Appeal. From police chases to floods, Newton has seen it all, and each image tells a story.

    Moments of Memory: Art from the Hearts of Alzheimer’s Artists | February 2010 – April 2010

    A non-profit program for visual art expression that was established for those living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, classes create a safe, supportive space for social interaction and self-expression in a non-critical environment. Specific techniques enable individuals to focus on the task at hand and feel a sense of accomplishment.

    3rd Annual Employee Art Show | October 2009 – January 2010

    The 3rd Annual Employee Art Show selected 105 artworks created by 65 airport artists. Media included paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed media. All art was created by employees of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, tenant employees of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, recent retirees, and immediate family members. Kreg Mebust & Team as well as Jake Finley performed on the trumpet during the artist’s reception.

    From Playa to Runway – The Art of Burning Man | June 2009 – September 2009

    Described by many as a social experiment in community, radical self-expression and self-reliance, Burning Man is these things and so much more. At its core it is artistic expression. This exhibit comprised several elements from Burning Man to share the event’s magic. The photo exhibit highlighted some of the art from the preceding five years at the festival.

    PAL (Pets Add Life) | February 2009 – May 2009

    Who’s your pal? A frog, turtle, snake, lizard, dog, or cat? This exhibit included 24 photographs of animals in human-like situations. It is just a sampling of the entertaining photographs found in the American Pet Products Association’s (APPA) annual calendar. Photographer Jeff Ross, Nevada Humane Society, and many of the airport’s four-legged, furry friends were on hand for an opening reception.

    The 2nd Annual Employee Art Show selected 88 artworks created by 53 airport artists. Media included paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, craft, and mixed media. All art was created by employees of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, tenant employees of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, recent retirees, and immediate family members.

    Wild Nevada | June 2008 – August 2008

    The Friends of Nevada Wilderness, a Nevada-based nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving clean water and air, beautiful views, recreational opportunities, wildlife, and quality of life for Nevada’s communities, shared a selection of Nevada photography from their 2008 and previous Wild Nevada calendars.

    Watercolors Far and Near | February 2008 – April 2008

    This showing of 55 vibrant watercolors by 46 watercolor artists included work from accomplished artist Karen Honaker and the Sierra Watercolor Society. The Sierra Watercolor Society is a non-profit organization formed to promote art in watercolor among its members and the public. The society coordinates a volunteer-based art group, Art Angels, to take watercolors into local elementary schools. The fruits of this labor of love were displayed in the gallery courtesy of High Desert Montessori School.

    The nationally recognized University of Nevada, Reno’s Child and Family Research Center featured the ideas and thinking, from infants to Kindergartners, through movement in paint, drawing, and photography. The exhibit of the children’s work and words documented by teachers provided compelling evidence of the creative collaboration between children and adults.

    Artouring the Airport | February 2007 – April 2007

    Artouring provided the cultural tourist with exclusive insider tours. Visitors experienced some of Nevada’s best professional artists as they invited you to their private studios to share their creative process and the results of that process. This example was a sampling of the art made available through these studio visits.

    An art exhibit by students, faculty, and staff members of the Truckee Meadows Community College. TMCC offers a wide variety of art classes including painting, drawing, ceramics, art history, and more.

    The Work of Art | November 2005 – April 2006

    The gallery’s first exhibit presented a selection of creative photography from students in the University of Nevada, Reno’s Arts programs. This exhibit explored the inspiration, imagination, discipline, dedication, and craft required to create a work of art.
