Airport Sustainability Advisory Committee (ASAC)

A volunteer committee related to airport noise was formally established by the Airport Board of Trustees by Resolution No. 110 on June 28, 1984. In 2022, this committee was formally transformed by the Airport Board of Trustees on July 14, 2022 from a noise-only committee to a forum that transparently and publicly addresses all environmental impacts of airport operations and activities.

View the current ASAC by-laws.

The purpose of ASAC is to:

  • Receive and assess information on the environmental impacts, including noise, of airport operations and activities at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and at Reno-Stead Airport (RTS)
  • Promote greater communication regarding airport operations and activities among the various public bodies, agencies, and commissions
  • Make advisory recommendations to RTAA staff regarding new and existing programs and approaches to sustainability and environmental management.

ASAC consists of 14 members; each member’s initial term is three years in length, and each may be reappointed for additional three-year terms. ASAC includes 5 airport users and operators and up to 9 community members, representing the communities surrounding RNO and RTS, of which no more than three (3) shall have affiliation with the government entity through employment or elective office. A member of the RTAA Board of Trustees is appointed to serve as Board Liaison on an annual basis. FAA and RTAA staff attending the meetings are non-voting members. ASAC is chaired by the RTAA President/CEO or his/her appointed staff designee.

Meetings are held in the Reno-Tahoe International Airport Board Room (located in the Airport Administrative Offices) and begin at 3:30 PM.

The agenda will be posted three (3) days prior to the meeting. Draft meeting minutes are posted ten (10) days after the meeting date. Final minutes are posted following approval by the Panel.
