02-07-2019 - Airport Passenger Numbers Soar in 2018

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) passenger numbers soared in 2018, with an increase of 4.8% over the previous year. RNO served 4,210,095 passengers in 2018 compared to 4,015,381 in 2017.

“This is tremendous news, not only for the airport, but for the entire Reno-Tahoe region,” said President and CEO Marily Mora. “This number, 4.2 million, represents the largest number of annual passengers we have seen at RNO since 2008.”

The rise in passenger counts can be attributed to the hard work of the Airport Board of Trustees and staff to bring in new air service. In addition, the increase would not have been possible without the Regional Air Service Corporation that brings together gaming, ski, convention and visitor bureaus, business and government in support of new air service.

Reno-Tahoe International has grown the total number of flights by 18% in the last four years. With the additional flights, more seats have been added to various markets, meaning that there are more opportunities for travelers to fly in and out of Reno-Tahoe. In fact, since 2014, the airport’s seat capacity has increased 25%.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport ended the year strong with increased passenger counts during the holidays. In December 2018, the airport served 341,283 passengers, an increase of 4.4% versus December 2017. This represents 43 consecutive months of positive passenger growth.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport currently offers 68 peak day non-stop departures to 22 destinations on nine commercial airlines, with 194,968 monthly departing seats available.
