MEDIA ALERT – Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program Blossoms at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport

RENO, Nev. (June 11, 2024) – Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is proud to announce the launch of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program. RNO is the first in the Reno-Tahoe area to adopt this program, which supports passengers with hidden disabilities by allowing them to discreetly communicate their needs through the Sunflower symbol. By wearing this symbol, individuals signal to airport staff that they may require additional assistance or understanding during their travel journey.

Key Statistics 

  • An estimated 1.3 billion people worldwide experience some form of disability 
  • Over 200 airports have joined the Sunflower network 
  • Persons with disabilities find inaccessible transportation 15 times more challenging than those without disabilities 
  • 21% of Sunflower wearers use the symbol when traveling
