About
For decades, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA), along with Reno-Tahoe International (RNO) and Reno-Stead (RTS) airports, has been committed to supporting and promoting the local art community. From regionally inspired sculptures to performance art and historical exhibits, RTAA has played a key role in showcasing Northern Nevada’s diverse art scene to travelers and the public alike.
In recognition of the importance of integrating art into public spaces, the RTAA Board of Trustees adopted Resolution No. 552 in 2021, which established a formal arts policy. The resolution commits a minimum of one percent of design and construction costs for capital improvement projects in public spaces at both RNO and RTS to fund public art. This policy reflects RTAA’s forward-thinking vision for the long-term future of the airports, and the integration of art into their infrastructure and operations.
These projects are carried out in collaboration with the newly formed Art Advisory Committee, which provides expert guidance on the recruitment, selection, acquisition, installation, maintenance, and conservation of permanent artworks. The committee plays a crucial role in shaping the direction of the Arts at the Airport program, which is governed by the RTAA Public Art Master Plan. This plan ensures that the art installations reflect the region’s cultural richness while aligning with the airports’ strategic growth.
Arts at the Airport, Reno-Tahoe, continues to grow as the airport expands, offering a variety of art forms, including permanent collections, rotating exhibitions, and live performances. These works highlight the vibrant local culture and foster a deeper connection between the airport and the community. The program also emphasizes community outreach, aiming to establish RNO as a key arts partner and regional resource.
Meanwhile, the Arts at the Airport, Reno-Stead, celebrates the rich history of aviation while incorporating more artistic elements into the general aviation environment. RTS focuses on both aviation-themed artwork and broader cultural themes, further contributing to the airport’s role as a hub for historical reflection and creative expression.
By dedicating resources to public art, RTAA continues to enhance the traveler experience while celebrating the unique culture and history of the region through artistic expression.
