(RENO, NV) – Firefighters at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) are participating in live fire
training exercises through Friday, October 9 as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s
(FAA) mandated safety requirements for commercial airports.
A Mobile Aircraft Fire Trainer, which is a replica aircraft fuselage, will be staged in a secure area
at the southwest corner of the airport near Airway Drive and E. Peckham Lane, but flames and
smoke from the fire training will be visible to the public.
The events will pair RNO’s fire team with the Nevada Air National Guard to train on the
procedures and techniques needed to respond if an aircraft incident occurs. These drills provide
airport firefighters an opportunity to perform a coordinated response and the ability to train
with their equipment in actual aircraft firefighting conditions.
The FAA’s mandated exercises are performed annually and align perfectly with RNO’s
commitment to safety and security as a top priority. We bring this to your attention in case
someone reports emergency activity or radio traffic at the airport.
No operational delays or impact to the traveling public are expected.
