Krys T. Bart is the President /CEO for the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, and is responsible for leading and directing the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, and the Reno Stead Airport, with an operating revenue budget of $42 million, and 260 employees.
Krys Bart holds the prestigious position of Chair of the Board of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). The AAAE is a non-profit professional organization made up of international airport executives and is considered the most influential airport organization in the world.
Ms. Bart took over as Reno-Tahoe Airport Director in December of 1998, and was named the 2007 Airport Director of the Year by Airport Revenue News Magazine due to her success in increasing airport revenues and enhancing customer service and community outreach. In July, 2006 the Air Transport Research Society honored Reno-Tahoe International by naming it one of the top-five most efficient airports in North America.
Krys began her tenure at a time when Reno-Tahoe International was experiencing declining air service and financial struggles. Noting the declining passenger count, Krys immediately put a freeze on the budget, stopped major capital improvement projects, reviewed each vacant position, and was determined not to burden the airlines with increased landing fees. In addition, during her first year, Krys reorganized the RTAA structure allowing for a more efficient and accountable organization, and made great strides to improve employee communication and technology.
Krys has promoted an open environment at the Airport Authority, and is committed to being a good community neighbor. Under her leadership, the Airport Authority completed a federal noise study which consisted of nearly $200,000 in public participation. The sound insulation program consists of aircraft noise mitigation and abatement measures that improve the quality of life for those subjected to high levels of aircraft noise. To date, over 1,700 homes have been insulated, providing noise relief for airport neighbors to the north and south.
As with every airport across the nation, Reno-Tahoe was negatively impacted by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. However, as a result of aggressive marketing efforts, Reno-Tahoe has recovered nearly all the flights lost after 9/11. Reno-Tahoe also now exceeds the number of annual passengers from 2001. Despite the difficulties of pre and post 9/11, Fitch Ratings, a credit rating agency, has maintained the airport?s bond rating at A.
As an Accredited Airport Executive, Krys Bart currently serves on the Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) Goals and Programs Committee. Krys also spearheaded Reno-Tahoe International Airport?s highly successful hosting of the 2006 ACI-NA Annual Conference.
Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada recognized Krys' accomplishments by inducting her into the Reno Business Leaders Hall of Fame in December 2005. In April, 2004, Krys Bart was named one of the seven most respected CEOs in Nevada by the Nevada Business Journal. Krys serves on the Board of Directors for Western Industrial Nevada (WIN) and on the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN).
Krys is the past President of the Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and, in 2002, was named Airport Executive of the Year by the Southwest Chapter of AAAE. Krys is also the recipient of the Aviation in Excellence Award, received in 1994 from the Southwest Chapter of AAAE.
Krys attended the University of Toledo and graduated Summa Cum Laude from California State University, Fresno, with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science. Krys lives in Reno with her husband Mike.
